June 13 Girdwood Alaska

Walking on snow in June

2303 feet high and the Tramway

Up on the mountain ready for skiing

Maybe not so ready for skiing

Ok today earliest rise at 7am to get to the RV place at 8am.  Took 4 hours to fix the water leak and $184.  So far $460 on repairs and a new battery that we got back in Whitehorse.  We then left anchorage heading south on the Seward highway named after Secretary of State William Seward who was known for "Seward's Folly". The dummy bought Alaska for 7 million dollars almost as good a deal as the Dutch got buying manhattan for $24. Actually this was the most beautiful scenery we've seen.  Once again my photos don't do it justice.

We then went to the Aleyeska resort.  In case you don't realize Aleyeska is the natives name for Alaska but the Euroweenies couldnt spell so good so we call it Alaska.  This is the largest ski resort in Alaska and is really beautiful.  We took the tram from sea level straight up 2303 feet to the top where we were warned repeatedly of avalanches.  We walked around up there in the snow and had dinner.  We then attempted to find a campground near there but were disappointed to find nothing suitable for our high taste.  We drove on to Portage glacier and found a campground from the USFS (United States Forest Service) right under the glacier.  I sure hope Rush Limbaugh is right that global warming is just liberal bullshit otherwise tonight our RV will have to turn into a boat!
That's all for now folks.
